Using Purolator will get you fired...
Well, here at Ambient anyway it's a fireable offense. :-)
Why's that? Well, Purolator never seems to be able to do anything
right. Ever. I've never had them deliver a SINGLE package correctly.
That's a pretty poor track record.
Yesterday Apple ships the "other" stuff for my shiny-new MacBook Pro
to me. They ship it to my home address. Whoops... So I call
Purolator. Instead of forcing me to drive to their depot to pick
things up, they decide to allow me to have the package "redirected"
to the office today.
So where's my shipment? No idea. Not only hasn't Purolator delivered
the package, but they don't actually know where it is. The even asked
me "is it a box?" ... Should THEY know that, I ask? Sigh. Anyway, so
I ask them, "Look, if you guys don't deliver it tonight by 5, is it
at least going to be available for pickup at the depot tonight?
Turns out that's not a binary thing either... I'd think that a
package is EITHER
A- On a truck
B- At the depot.
Turns out that there's "C- In the Ether" as well.
Ugh.
So yes, choosing Purolator will get people fired at Ambient.
Now, on the upside, Apple used FedEx to ship my MacBook Pro from
China (I guess they realize the important stuff isn't to be trusted
to Purolator)... and I'll bet that come Tuesday morning, FedEx will
deliver my Mac, and Purolator will still be trying to find out where
my package is.

Wow, way to go Mesh!
Those of you not in Toronto missed out on an amazing conference this
week. A few guys (Rob Hyndman, Michael McDermott, Mark Evans, Mathew
Ingram and Stuart MacDonald... hope I didn't miss anyone) put this
amazing conference (meshconference.com) together in the span of 9
weeks... and aside from inviting me to speak in a session, didn't
really make any mistakes :-)
Thanks guys for putting this together... we're all looking forward to
Mesh '07.
A few issues... and not ours! :-)
You'll have noticed a few of the pics that I took at the recent Mesh
conference were delayed (i.e. not posted immediately)... why? Well,
it turns out that Fido's MMS system has been pretty flaky for the
last 48 hours. After spending an hour and half on the phone, telling
the support folks that this wasn't a handset problem, and was
actually a network issue, we finally got someone to admit that
something actually *is* wrong, and they're going to look into things...
So if you're on our beta and are on Fido, and are wondering why your
pics aren't being posted right away... things should start working
pretty soon... we'll let you know when the network engineering folks
at Fido ping us and let us know. In the meantime, check out Joey
playing his accordion, and the snazzy Expedia bus :-)
