We have a military... you don't!

An open memo to Giles Duceppes (yes, I watched a chunk of the debate tonight... I know, should be at a party or something:

Want to know what prevents the rest of the country from letting Quebec violate international law, use a fuzzy question and simple majority to unilaterally declare soverignty? *Canada* has a military... Quebec does not.

Le sigh. I love Quebec... I love (with a minor exception or two) Montreal... I know that "My Canada includes Quebec" sounds inconceivably trite, but there you go... As Canada (and the rest of the western world) needs to start moving more quickly to build a kick-ass education system to build the knowledge infrastructure it needs to be competitive in the future, isn't this something we'd be far more successful at as a single country?

As with most political decisions it seems like Canadians are again faced with voting for the (perceived) lesser of all evils, but to all those thinking about voting PQ... Can't we accomplish more together?
